Key BROWNVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY Dates:

  • 1812 Lewis and Clark Expedition – stopped south of Brownville

  • 1854 – Founding of Brownville by Richard Brown

  • 1860 – Brown/Carson House Construction – donated to the Brownville Historical Society by Rose Carson in 1966

  • January 1, 1863 – Daniel Freeman files first homestead in Brownville at the Land Office

  • 1875 – Railroad Depot Construction; the depot was purchased by BHS in 1959

  • September 24, 1961 – Dedication of Boettner Park given to BHS by George W. Boettner; the Civil War cannon was also given to BHS by George W. Boettner at this time.

  • June 28, 1998 – Dr. Spurgin’s Office donated to BHS by Jane and Randel Smith

  • February 2015 – Melva Sage of Brownville deeded the Wheel Museum and the BHS Office to the Brownville Historical Society

  • October 10, 2015 – the Land Office was re-opened

  • April 23, 2016 – Opening of the Sage Museum and the Brownville Historical Society Office
